Sudoku Shogun for Android — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 11 October 2026
This policy explains how the Sudoku Shogun app for Android (Google Play package com.shogunsudoku.app) handles information. The web version of Sudoku Shogun has its own privacy statement.
Who is responsible
Sudoku Shogun is made by Pepijn Fokke ter Heide in the Netherlands and published on Google Play under the developer name Sudoku Shogun. He is responsible for the personal information described in this policy.

In short
- You can play without an account. There are no ads and no in-app purchases.
- Your games and progress are stored on your device.
- The app's own code contains no analytics, advertising or tracking and does not automatically upload your games or progress. Android and Google can send diagnostic reports if you allow this on your phone (see "Google Play and diagnostics").
- The developer only receives information from you when you choose to send it, for example by email.
What the app stores on your device
To let you play and continue later, the app saves the following in its own storage on your device:
- puzzles, the numbers you entered and your pencil notes;
- times, results, statistics, experience points and rank;
- your settings;
- a random installation identifier.
The installation identifier is created when the app is installed. It is not based on your phone, phone number or Google account, and it is not an advertising identifier. The app uses it to keep your completed-puzzle records consistent. Each record keeps the identifier of the installation where it was created, so your progress can also contain identifiers from earlier installations if you imported a backup.
This information stays on your device. The developer cannot see it.
Internet access
The app has Android's internet permission, but you can play without an internet connection. Sudoku Shogun's own code does not automatically transmit your game data. Android and Google services on your phone can still connect to Google, sometimes on the app's behalf; see "Google Play and diagnostics". Exporting a backup or sharing a result sends the information described below to the destination you choose.
Sharing a result
If you tap Share, Android shows a list of apps. The app you choose receives a short text about your result, such as the game mode, level, time and outcome. It does not receive your saved progress. The app you share with handles that text under its own terms.
Backup files
Export. When you export a backup, you choose where the file is saved using Android's file picker — for example your phone's storage or a cloud storage app you use. The file contains your games, notes, times, results, progress, settings and installation identifiers. It is not encrypted, so keep it private. If you save it to a cloud service, that service stores the file under its own terms.
Import. Importing reads only the backup file you select. Depending on the option you choose, it adds that backup to your progress or replaces your current progress on this device.
The developer does not receive your backup files unless you choose to send one, for example with a support email.
Android backup and moving to a new phone
The app is configured to exclude its game data from Android's automatic backup and phone-to-phone transfer. This configuration is not a guarantee for every device or backup provider. To keep your progress when you change or reset your phone, export a backup file and import it on the new installation.
Deleting your data
Uninstalling Sudoku Shogun deletes its game data from that device. You can also delete it in Android's settings (usually Settings › Apps › Sudoku Shogun › Storage › Clear storage; names vary by phone). Backup files you exported and results you shared are separate copies — delete them where you saved or sent them.
Support emails
If you email shogunsudoku@gmail.com, the developer receives your email address, your message and any attachments you add, such as a screenshot or a backup file. This information is used only to answer your question and look into the problem. The legal basis is the developer's legitimate interest in handling your request.
The mailbox is a Gmail account, so Google provides the email service and processes messages under its own privacy policy. Google may process data outside the European Economic Area and states that it relies on the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses for such transfers. Support emails are not shared with anyone else unless the law requires it.
Support emails and their attachments are deleted six months after your request has been resolved. Information needed for an ongoing complaint or a legal obligation may be kept longer, only as long as necessary.
Please do not send passwords, verification codes or identity documents.
Privacy and support web pages
The privacy and support pages are hosted on Cloudflare Pages. When you open them in your browser, Cloudflare receives connection information such as your IP address, browser details and the page you request, so it can deliver and protect the website. Cloudflare handles part of this information under its own responsibility and states that it participates in the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework; see Cloudflare's privacy policy. The developer has not added analytics or tracking to these pages.
Opening the email link starts your own email app, which sends your message.
Google Play and diagnostics
Google Play handles downloads, updates and reviews under Google's terms.
If you allowed your phone to share usage and diagnostics data with Google, Google may receive diagnostic reports related to the app. These are sent by Android and Google components, not by Sudoku Shogun's own code:
- Google Play crash and performance data. Google may give the developer statistics about the app and crash and performance reports.
- WebView crash reports. The app displays its interface using Android System WebView. Google describes crash reporting in its WebView implementation as follows. If WebView is likely to have caused a crash, a crash report can be sent to Google. Google describes these reports as containing system information, active field trials and the part of the app's memory needed to reconstruct the crash, with text strings removed, plus a random 128-bit identifier specific to this app that is used to remove duplicate reports. Google states that the reports contain no web addresses.
Sudoku Shogun has switched off WebView usage statistics. App developers cannot switch off WebView crash reports. You can stop these reports by turning off usage and diagnostics sharing with Google on your phone. The WebView crash identifier is reset when you clear the app's cache or data, or uninstall the app.
Children
Sudoku Shogun is intended for teens and adults and is not designed for children under 13. Younger players can still play; the app does not ask for personal information.
Your rights
For personal information you sent to the developer, such as a support email, you can ask for access, correction or deletion, ask to restrict its use, or object to its use. Email shogunsudoku@gmail.com; the developer may ask you to confirm that you sent the original message. Game data on your device is under your own control and is not available to the developer.
You can also complain to a data protection authority, such as the Dutch Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens or the authority in the EU country where you live.
Changes
If the way the app handles information changes, this policy will be updated and the date at the top will change. Important changes will also be mentioned in the app or in its Google Play listing.
